4 Factors to Consider Before Buying an Expired Domain

Featured article by Juicy Domains

Buying expired domains has become such a trend over the past few years. Actually it has been done for ages. It is only recently that people realized how beneficial these domains can be. You know as they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. There are so many reasons why domains expire, but that is not what this article is about. How can you figure out the best domains to purchase? An expired domain can be great for SEO purposes. The only thing that you need to do is get the right one.

Evaluating the domains

There are several things that you will want to know about the domain before you purchase it. There are so many people who have paid huge money for lemons in the name of high performance domains. To start with you have to figure out whether the domain is a spam site or not. There are so many domains that are just spam and you want to steer clear of these as much as possible.

The domains that you purchase will be used for link building and a whole lot of other activities. Linking your current site to a spam site is going to be detrimental to its performance on the search engines. Google checks who is linking to you. If you have a host of spam sites linking to your site then that will lower your rank on the SERPs. The logic here is that if you have spam sites linking to you, then your site is probably a spam site as well. It is a case of the proverbial birds of a feather flocking together.

Aside from being a spam when you buy expired domains, you will want to check a number of metrics. These include:

1. Domain age

The older the domain, the better it is. The search engines place higher preference on the older domains because they are more trustworthy. The WhoIs details of the domain will provide you with information about its age. This is normally the date upon which the domain was first registered. It is good to go for that domain that has been around for some years. However, it is not compulsory.

2. Domain authority

This is basically a percentage that predicts how well a site is going to perform in SERPs. You can use this to compare one domain against others. Domain authority is great for comparison not for evaluating a single domain.

3. Page authority

It is almost similar to the domain authority aforementioned. The only difference is that it is a metric specific for the home page of the site. Ideally the page authority and domain authority should be similar to each other.

4. Backlinks data

This is vital information because as aforementioned, the search engines are going to be looking at who is linking to your site. The backlinks data will show the total back links to a specific domain you want to buy as well as the total back links that actually do have an impact on the site.
