Making international phone calls can be very costly. However, there are times when this cannot be avoided especially when you need to make a very important call while you’re traveling abroad.

There are a number of companies that sell cards on the market to allow you to make international phone calls at a much reasonable price such as the NobelCom phone cards. But there are other ways that you can make long distance phone calls for free.

Many phone applications now allow you to make voice calls, create video calls, and send text messages with no fee. All you need is a strong internet connection and your smartphone. Here are a few user-friendly apps you can use to make international phone calls.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging apps today. It is very easy to use, allowing you to contact family, friends, and colleagues from different parts of the world. Aside from the basic voice call, WhatsApp also allows you to send messages, videos, and photos. You can also leave voice messages and create group chats to make communicating much more convenient.

To register on WhatsApp, all you have to do is type in your phone number, so they can send you a verification code for your account. You don’t need a PIN or username in order to start using it. All you need is a phone number and a good internet connection. Do keep in mind that if you do not use Wi-Fi to access the app, you may be charged by your mobile carriers.

Viber

Viber is another messaging platform that lets you make free international calls with the use of Wi-Fi. Just like WhatsApp, Viber also requires only your phone number when you register. It then gives you the option to sync all your contacts into the app and shows you the people in your contacts who are also already using Viber.

This app allows you to make phone calls, send messages, photos, videos, stickers, and create group chats. It is available for IOS, Android, Blackberry, and Windows phone.

Skype

Skype used to be only a desktop telecommunications software, but now it has developed its own mobile app to make communicating easier. It is one of the most reliable and easy-to-use calling applications, and it’s also free. Skype makes international communication more convenient because the app is accessible for both desktop and mobile users.

Through the app, you can make voice calls, video calls, and send messages. You can also create or participate in a group video call with up to 25 members, making it the perfect app for long-distance important meetings. Skype also allows you to send videos and photos through personal messages or group chats. No matter where you are in the world, everything that you send through the Skype app is free, as long as you use Wi-Fi and not your data service.

Conclusion

There are a lot of ways that you can make international calls without having to pay high rates to your mobile carrier. All you have to do is find out which app best suits your taste and usage, and you’re good to go. You can now enjoy keeping in touch with your friends from different parts of the world or contacting colleagues for an important task at work without having to worry about call durations and expensive charges.
