Bad Business Process Management Will ‘Topple’ 10 Companies by 2014

The technology experts at Gartner Research floated a provocative prediction this week: Poor business process management (BPM) will “topple” 10 Global 2000 companies by the end of 2014.

Gartner made that prediction and a slew of others in a report titled “Business Process Management Competencies Will Expose the ‘Haves’ and ‘Have-Nots,’ “ in advance of its Business Process Management Summit, to be held in London in early March and in Baltimore in early April.

Organizations have devoted varying levels of effort to the practice of business process management over the years. In the 1990s, a wave of business process reengineering placed the BPM discipline squarely in the spotlight, but since then it has enjoyed slightly less prominence. Gartner expects that to change in the next few years as companies across all geographies seize the opportunities inherent in better business process management.
