Bring the Nook Home with Reading Apps for iPad

August 4, 2015 No Comments

It is no secret that the nook is now the preferred eReader, even surpassing the Kindle Fire in sales. The problem, however, is that the iPad is still the most popular tablet out there. Once users purchase an iPad they find very little use for their Android-powered Nook, regardless of how great it might be. After all, who wants to carry TWO tablets around? Not many people would answer yes, and for a time, it looked as if Apple might begin to dominate the e-book market. Fortunately, it did not take long for Nook iPad reading apps to make their appearance, and last year, this application allowed readers from all tablet walks of life to finally experience all that Nook as to offer.

Nook’s Extensive Library

It is no secret that Nook has more that Nook allows readers to access more than one million titles from authors all over the world. Not only does it offer you all of those book options, the app will actually help you to sort through them using intuitive menu commands all the way from selection to checkout. As you are searching through the books, you will notice that the front page features some of the most popular B&N picks, making it easier to find the big hits. In addition to that, there are “LendMe” books which allow you to check out a book for a certain period of time. Finally, you will notice that the application features a rather nice ‘Recommended’ section which is comprised based on books that you have purchased or checked out in the past. Most of the time they remain consistent to the genre and authors that you have read in the past. In other words, with the suggestions from Barnes and Noble, there is a good chance that you will never run out of reading material or suggestions.

CNET reports that Barnes and Noble was the original leader of the eBook revolution, and Nook carries on this legacy even now that paper and pixels have reached a comfortable truce. The popularity of the mobile app proves that it still has not lost its considerable following.

Get Started

Once you download the app, you can log in using your existing Nook account. If you have already had a Nook in the past, your account will not only carry over but you will also have access to all of the books that you purchased in the past. The only limitation you will find associated with the iPad version of this application is that you will be unable to access the store directly through the application. This functionality was removed by Nook after a dispute with Apple—but you will still be able to order by using the Safari web browser in the event you wish to purchase a new book. This is literally the only downside to using the Nook application on your iPad.

If, on the other hand, you do not have a Nook account, you can easily make one by pressing the “Get Started” icon when you start the Nook application. You simply need to make sure that you have a valid e-mail address and provide an answer for security purposes. Once you do that, you will be good to go, and before you know it you’ll be right at home with the app. Here you will be able to access your library, and you should note that it does come with a few sample books for your enjoyment. With these samples you will be able to test out the Nook application without making a major commitment if it turns out the app isn’t quite your style. Of course, there is a lot to like here, so committing to it really should be a no brainer.

Information derived from Dummies.com (popular publisher of the ‘For Dummies’ series), has indicated that the application contains many of the same features of the native Nook firmware. For example, you will be able to customize your Nook book in any fashion that you wish. You will be able to change the font size, type, color and you even adjust the brightness on the screen in the app in order to ensure that it’s useable in any situation. Additionally, you will find that you are able to access a built-in dictionary, which will permit you to look up words that you do not know. After all, reading is much more of an adventure when you can comprehend the words, and all of us will come across one that we do not know occasionally.

If you’re a book lover, this is one application well worth adding to your mobile device. Grab a free sample book or download your favorite title to give it a try—it won’t be long before your digital library is overflowing with bestselling titles.
