Business Technology Trends that Are Likely Here to Stay beyond 2016

October 4, 2016 No Comments

Featured article by Diana Smith, Independent Technology Author

Business technology trends are constantly evolving. To this very day, the technology has progressed so much, that we look back to a point a decade ago and shake heads in disbelief at how much more difficult it was to run a business. It might be true that the technology has spoiled us a bit, but it has also enhanced the speed at which we’re able to perform tasks and has spurred the business world on into light speed. So, what can we expect from business technology trends in 2016?

Big Data

Let’s start off with an advancement that seems to only be picking up in pace as of relatively recently. Big data has caused a huge commotion back in 2015 and for a reason – as the use of this technological marvel intensifies, we’re merely starting to become aware of the fact that it has changed the business world forever. Some say that the world hasn’t seen an innovation this large since the dawn of the Internet and we’re inclined to agree. Every business process from hiring to planning has been significantly improved – instead of gathering dust and taking up space in filing cabinets, big data has enabled HR employees to choose the cream of potential employees. It’s worth mentioning that big data hasn’t really brought upon a revolutionary new way of using information, but has “merely” allowed us to make the best use out of, well… data, along with many other benefits.

Smartphones

Next thing on the list, worth mentioning, is the smartphone technology. Think about how difficult it was to comprehend that we’ll all be equipped with pocket computers and connected amongst each other a mere decade ago. The use of smartphones, however, isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. The number of Google searches on mobile devices, for example, has already surpassed those performed on computers. You have probably found yourself sitting before your PC, with your Facebook open, yet chatting via the mobile Facebook app. Smartphones are cool, easily-accessible, advanced and have many useful qualities. The ultimate modern Swiss army knives are likely to stay a trend throughout 2016 and for many years to come.

Security Trends

Everything is done online s, especially with the abovementioned technology. As the use of the online world has increased, the security threats have grown accordingly. Using cloud computing is especially dangerous, with cybercriminals targeting small businesses, unable to afford proper security, as their link to major companies. Although small businesses can do little to defend themselves from becoming a gateway to their parent companies, they can do a lot to reduce the actual real-life physical security threat of hackers posing as employees, with intentions of hacking into a small business terminal. Getting an HID card reader can go a long way in preventing this from happening, especially owing to the fact that most startups can easily afford this.

Mobile Cloud Computing

With regards to the threats revolving around cloud security, Mobile Cloud Computing, or MCC is likely to grow and even become dominant very soon. The general idea here is being able to access your business files from across the world, using your very own smartphone device. What this means is that you’ll be able to do business quicker and easier, not having to drag around a ton of files on business trips, for instance. What made this process a whole lot easier, quicker and generally cheaper is the fact that complexity, data storage and computing has been removed from the mobile device and is now being handled by the cloud provider.

The mentioned business trends are definitely here to stay throughout the remainder of 2016, but are also likely to stay well beyond the current fiscal year. It’s vital to include these improvements, seeing as how keeping pace with the rest of the business world is vital for a business’s survival
