EMV is here to stay. More than 80 countries already use the new technical standard for smart payment cards, which store data on a chip rather than magnetic stripes. EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa, the three companies that originally created the technical standard. On October 1, the US became the last G-20 country to make the shift.
