Get to Know the Latest Jobs in Big Data

July 11, 2016 No Comments

Job predictions can get pretty tricky. Figuring out what the job market will be like in a year is difficult enough, let alone five or ten years down the line. Few things are guaranteed, but if there’s one area that has shown a great deal of promise in the past few years, it’s the big data industry. Of course, simply naming it the “big data industry” is something of a misnomer. While there are certainly plenty of big data technologies and big data-centric businesses, what makes big data so popular is how easy it can be used in pretty much any industry out there. Whether you’re thinking of healthcare, retail, HR, sports, gaming, or the financial sector, big data has a place and an increasingly important role. Best of all, that rising trend doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon. Finding out about what the latest jobs are in the big data job market can help you prepare for the future in what has become a lucrative area.

Big data growth has been impressive in recent years, and it doesn’t look to be slowing down. According to recent research from IDC, experts predict that the big data market will have an annual growth rate of more than 23 percent through 2019. That means increasing demand for a variety of companies and organizations out there. Equally important is the general lack of people with the required skills to fill the needed big data positions that are opening up. High demand coupled with low supply means opportunities are plentiful and well paying for those with the right skill set. And considering how quickly the big data job market is evolving, staying on top of things remains a top priority.

One area within big data that is receiving a lot of attention is machine learning. While machine learning, much like big data, can cover a lot of ground, it essentially involves automating tasks through the use of self-learning algorithms. Those algorithms gather in data from various sources and through enough repetitions are able to complete specific tasks in the most efficient way possible. People with machine learning skills stand to gain a lot as more and more industries turn to automation in order to improve their overall operations.

Knowledge of data infrastructure is also a crucial skill to have. Most businesses may know they want to gather and analyze data, but they likely lack the expertise in how to do it. With data infrastructure skills, companies can know how to store and access the data they have. Whether they use what is flash storage technology or a more cloud-based approach, they will have the right tools at their disposal if the organizations hire those who know all about data infrastructure. This knowledge also helps people navigate a cloud computing environment, which many companies are turning to anyway.

The latest big data jobs aren’t just about crunching numbers; they’re about taking your findings and translating them into a language that almost anyone can understand, especially those with limited knowledge about big data analytics. That means a lot of organizations are placing an added emphasis on data visualization specialists. Often it is difficult to find hidden insights and patterns when looking at the raw data. Only when it is put in a visual form will some of those insights become apparent. For that reason, visual analytics continues to gain in value, helping to bridge the gap between knowledgeable data scientists, corporate executives, and the average person.

More attention is also being placed on certain industries that are seeking to leverage big data. Some of the latest big data hiring trends were released by WANTED Analytics, which showed some interesting findings. The industries that were most involved in hiring big data experts were Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services, Information Technologies, Manufacturing, Finance and Insurance, and Retail. These are all industries with jobs looking to grab hold of that next big data opportunity.

Organizations of all sorts are catching on to the potential that big data offers. That will lead to even further growth for big data and a greater need for those with the right big data skills. Jobs in that area right now are varied and plentiful, and new ones are being added all the time. For now, it’s a great time to be someone with big data expertise.
