If there is one fact that can hardly be disputed it would be that all business administrators utilize technology in some form or another within the capacity of their jobs. From cell phones to videoconferencing hardware and software, technology has become an integral part of what it is they do. In fact, you don’t need to be an administrator with an online business degree with a focus in technology from Arizona State University to use technological innovations within the course of your work.

There is no getting away from technology. This is why it is imperative that you understand how to use these hi tech gadgets and gizmos to improve your performance as a business administrator. Here are some of the ways in which technology impacts your job on a day to day basis.

Communications

No matter what level within administration you are on, from departmental administrator to the company administrator, technological advances in communications have a huge impact on your performance. From videoconferencing with the board of directors to sending general emails to staff, the way in which we communicate has radically improved our performance.

If you should be one of those who studied for an online bachelors in business, you probably covered the ways in which technology impacts business communications. There is no longer a need to wait days for a response because such things as videoconferencing, email and VOIP telephone communications are almost instantaneous, but first you need to know how to use them.

Big Data and Marketing

As an administrator, one of your main tasks will probably be to devise business strategies going forward, and one of the most important strategies you will be involved with is marketing. You will need to consider not only how to grow your market share but also you will need to determine which markets your products would be most likely to do well in.

Big data and analytics would be the foundation upon which you devise your marketing plan and of course, marketing and customer acquisition are inseparable. Without the right marketing strategies based on big data and analytics, trying to build your customer base would be a hit and miss endeavor.

Human Resources

Administrators work closely with HR and there probably isn’t another department in the whole of your organization that appreciates technology more than Human Resources. Many HR departments have transitioned to Cloud based operations which means that they are totally dependent on technology for everything from timekeeping and payroll to training and the recruitment of new talent.

An HR departmental administrator knows the value of technology and would be the first to say that technological innovations have streamlined many of their processes, ultimately keeping operating costs lower making profits higher. For example, what could be more cost effective than a video conference with all department heads who happen to be at remote locations, making the cost of travel a thing of the past?

In the end, no matter what level of administration you find yourself in, as a 21st Century administrator you should familiarize yourself with all the latest advances in technology. This will not only help you do your job easier and more effectively but in most cases will help reduce operating costs for your company. This equates to higher profits and in the end, job security for you. Who would have ever thought that technology would one day be the key to effective administration?
