Laserfiche Announces the Long Beach Police Department as Run Smarter Award Winner

Laserfiche has announced the winners of its annual Run Smarter Awards program, including the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD). Each year, Laserfiche honors organizations that succeed in promoting organizational agility through innovative use of Laserfiche enterprise content management (ECM).

After the City of Long Beach, CA, standardized on Laserfiche in 2009, LBPD migrated arrest records and crime reports from a legacy imaging system built on Kofax and ApplicationXtender. Then it began scanning new content such as field interview cards and case files.

Today, LBPD officers have the ability to retrieve critical documents such as tickets, restraining orders, arrest reports, policies and procedures, and more directly from their patrol vehicles, whereas in the past they could only view them from computers in the police station.

“The Laserfiche solution has allowed the Police Department to replace an outdated and inflexible imaging system with a comprehensive ECM system that better meets our needs, while delivering ongoing support cost savings and productivity improvements,” said Jim McDonnell, LBPD’s Chief of Police.

In particular, the LBPD’s gang injunction program has benefitted from the use of Laserfiche, which gives officers in the field instant access to the injunction-related information and images they need to make arrests.

“Laserfiche allows us to deliver information to officers in the field in as few clicks as possible,” said Jonathan Stafford, Administrator of LBPD’s Records & Technology Division. “Officers need to worry about enforcing the law and protecting the public, not about finding the right paperwork. The impact on gang activity has been huge.”

Other 2010 Run Smarter winners include: Central District Health Department of Boise, ID; Dallas Associated Dermatologists; Durham County, NC; ECOM Atlantic; ESSAR Group; Hamilton-Wentworth School Board; City of Maple Grove, MN; London Borough of Tower Hamlets; Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians; NE Metro Intermediate Schools; Pulte Mortgage; South Essex Partnership NHS Trust; Spire Investment Partners, LLC; Texas A&M University Kingsville; Virginia Port Authority; and Wythe County Community Hospital.
