MIDLOTHIAN, TEXAS – AUGUST 8, 2013 – The Midlothian Independent School District (MISD) has strengthened relationships and joint efforts for campus safety with the Rapid Responder® Crisis Management System in their district protecting campuses, students and staff.  After receiving a REMS grant, MISD installed Rapid Responder from Prepared Response, Inc., which currently protects 17 sites with plans to expand. The system includes documentation of ongoing fire drills, shelter in place and lockdowns, along with storing emergency plans, chemical identification and location as well as reunification sites in case of an emergency. This secure information is then shared with first responders and school officials providing instant access to school emergency plans and key site information.

Regular training is performed by MISD Safety and Security Coordinator, Rhonda Welch, teaching new responders how to use Rapid Responder which drives collaborative campus safety. Weekly meetings occur between Midlothian ISD, Midlothian Fire Department and Police Department, keeping school safety and teamwork at the forefront of a safe learning environment.

“The Rapid Responder system has really brought us together,” said Rhonda Welch, M.Ed. Safety and Security Coordinator. “School safety is a priority of ours, and having Rapid Responder helps support a joint community effort to keep our students safe, while we also benefit from daily use by managing table top plans, other emergency response procedures, as well as, tracking drills and training exercises.”

“As a commander over a multi-jurisdictional special weapons and tactics team and as a field commander over multi-operations for our police department, Prepared Responses’ Rapid Responder provides an all hazards response capability,” said Garland Wolf, Support Services Commander with the Midlothian Police Department. “Rapid Responder is a threat mitigation system that allows you to prepare for, respond to and manage critical incidents. It is easy to use in high stress situations by anyone trained on the system and it works for the first responder, on-scene incident commander and executive management.”

Rapid Responder is an all-hazards site-based crisis management system providing campus officials and first responders instant access to site-specific emergency preparedness and response information. Data includes – but is not limited to – floor plans, site maps, aerial photos, interior and exterior facility imagery, hazardous material locations, utility shut off instructions, police and fire tactical response plans, facility emergency and evacuation plans as well as key contact information. Over 3,000 schools in 24 U.S. states use the DHS SAFETY Act Certified system to create and manage emergency preparedness and response for their campuses.
