QlikTech, a leader in Business Discovery – user-driven Business Intelligence (BI), today announced that its customer Centerstone Research Institute (CRI), a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare delivery through the integration of research and information technology, is expanding its QlikView deployment to make significant progress toward finding a cure for mental illness and addiction disorders. The expansion is made possible in part through QlikTech’s “Change Their World” Grant Program and enables CRI to become the largest repository of mental health information in the world. As a result, community mental health centers (CMHCs) across the country will have greater insight and operational effectiveness to dramatically improve care for mental illness or addiction disorders for the patients they serve.

CRI works alongside Centerstone, the nation’s largest provider of community-based behavioral healthcare, to conduct clinically relevant research and provide high-quality services to individuals with mental illness and addiction. Both Centerstone and CRI are committed to advancing the use of business intelligence and analytics across the field of behavioral health. Through generous support from the Ayers Foundation and Joe C. Davis Foundation, CRI implemented the QlikView Business Discovery Platform in 2009 as part of a comprehensive analytics solution. As a result, Centerstone experienced:

  • 30% overall clinical productivity increase
  • $12-15 million increase in annual revenue
  • 25% increase in treatment plan completion

CRI’s warehouse contains 132 GB of data, representing more than 1.5 million clinical services delivered to 70,000 individuals each year at Centerstone. The company now has eight active QlikView researchers, along with users across multiple applications who analyze data from their Electronic Health Record database and other business sources.

“QlikView has been an essential component of our analytics platform,” said Thomas W. Doub, Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer, CRI. “It has enabled CRI to implement and promote a strategic data-driven culture across the Centerstone enterprise, which has resulted in significant improvements in care provision and cost savings, and provided a framework for clinical excellence in patient care.”

CRI is a grant recipient of the QlikTech “Change Their World” Program, a global corporate social responsibility platform which focuses on delivering the information that global healthcare, environmental and humanitarian organizations need to ensure the efficacy and efficiency of their programs. With this grant, CRI will scale its current platform to other CMHCs using a software as a service (SaaS) delivery model with a cloud-hosted infrastructure and the SQL Server database system.

The primary goal of the expansion is to transform community behavioral healthcare practitioners’ use and discovery of data to improve clinical practice and further personalize care. This is accomplished by increasing operational efficiency and delivering predictive algorithms that will inform clinical decisions on a higher level. Complex healthcare data will be accessible to clinicians and administrators through a QlikView interactive dashboard environment.

“With QlikView, we are bringing CRI one step closer to its mission of preventing and curing mental illness and addiction, and providing hope to affected individuals and families,” said Ellen Derrico, Director Global Market Development, Life Sciences & Healthcare. “This is a great example of the power of access to information. This analysis not only transformed CRI’s business through increased revenue and productivity, but it also allows them to improve the lives of the communities they serve.”
