Santa’s Workshop – New BPM System!

December 29, 2011 No Comments

It was three days before Christmas and in Santa’s workshop, all was not well. The chief supply-chain elf had discovered a problem: a critical shortage of blue Legos.

At that moment, Santa was in San Diego, getting some much-needed work in on his tan before heading back north to, well, take the reins. The ringtone on his iPhone (Lady GaGa’s “Modern Romance”, surprisingly enough) stopped him just as he was about to apply more lotion to his cherry-like nose.

“Boss? It’s me. Bit of a problem up here.”

“Don’t tell me. It’s Rudolph, isn’t it.”

“No, nothing like that. We need to place an emergency order for blue Legos.”

“I see. Can they get them to us in time?”

“Oh, yeah. Those guys are in Denmark. It’s practically next door.”

“OK, so what’s the problem?”

“The chief financial elf won’t accept a verbal approval. Something about… socks?”

“Socks? Oh, he meant “SOX”—the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation. He’s going to need written approval. OK, well, what can we do?”

“Actually, there’s good news. We have that new BPM system. It’s got mobile approval capabilities. Just look for the email notification, and click the link, and we’ll be all set.”

“Wow, talk about your Christmas miracles! And the chief financial elf is OK with that?”

“Yep, he told me that it satisfied his socks… well, I wasn’t sure exactly what he meant, but he did say that since the electronic approval could be verified to have come from you, we’d be all set.”

“You know, that makes sense. The authentication trail left by my access to the system can be used to demonstrate that I’m the one who actually submitted the approval. Clever guy, our CFE. OK, looking at my email now… there it is. OK, clicking the link… there. Done.”

“Thanks boss!”

“No problem. And do me a favor, keep an eye on Rudolph. Last year he got into the eggnog, nearly sideswiped the Eiffel Tower. And just when I’d gotten the other reindeer to stop making fun of him.”
