Savvis Study Reveals 75% of Companies Will Use Enterprise-Class Cloud Computing Solutions Within Five Years

November 29, 2010 No Comments

SOURCE: PR Newswire

Three-fourths of companies either currently employ enterprise-grade cloud computing solutions or plan to implement enterprise-grade cloud over the next five years, according to a new study commissioned by Savvis, Inc., a global leader in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises.

IDG Research Services and CIO Custom Solutions Group surveyed 172 chief technology officers, chief information officers and IT managers from around the globe. Their report, titled “Enterprise-Grade Cloud Computing Adoption: Trends and Purchase Requirements,” can be downloaded at http://www.savvisknowscloud.com/information-center.

“This independent study validates the industry notion that enterprises want customizable cloud solutions that go beyond the application level and comprehensively address requirements such as security and service levels,” said Bryan Doerr, chief technology officer at Savvis.

The study found that IT usually identifies projects and areas that could benefit from cloud and informs the business. However, 23 percent of respondents reported that business leaders sometimes bypass IT and purchase solutions on their own.

Other key findings from the survey include:

  • 60 percent consider it extremely or very challenging to find the right cloud computing solution for their companies
  • 69 percent perceive cloud computing solutions as offering greater flexibility
  • 64 percent expect spending on hosted, on-demand and/or cloud-based software at their companies to increase over the next year
  • 62 percent rate security as a critical factor when evaluating cloud solutions

As enterprises look to move mission-critical applications to the cloud, many are increasingly concerned with the privacy and security of their data, as well as the performance of their cloud-based applications. Savvis addresses these requirements through a range of network solutions integrated with the Savvis Symphony line of cloud services.

Savvis Symphony includes converged cloud network options ranging from public connectivity over Savvis’ Tier 1 IP network backbone to secure, low-latency, quality-of-service-enabled Application Transport Services (ATS), Savvis’ core Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based service. The low-latency distribution network allows Savvis to offer a complete, end-to-end, quality of service-enabled solution for clients – from inside the data center to the end-user location.

The Savvis Symphony suite of services currently is available in 18 data centers with global access via Savvis’ network across North America, Europe and Asia. Details about the Savvis Symphony suite of cloud services can be found at http://www.savvisknowscloud.com.
