Seattle Children’s Hospital Selects Tableau Software to Help Monitor and Analyze Its Operations Data

March 14, 2011 No Comments

Tableau Software, the global leader in rapid-fire business intelligence software, today announced that Seattle Children’s Hospital selected Tableau Software to help the hospital monitor and analyze data to make the right operational decisions which ultimately improves patient care. Children’s is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 children’s hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report and serves as the pediatric and adolescent academic medical referral center for Alaska, Idaho, Montana and Washington.

“Providing quality and efficient care is job number one at Seattle Children’s,” said Drex DeFord, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Seattle Children’s Hospital.  “Tableau’s business intelligence analytics gives our people the tools to best monitor and analyze performance data, which helps us to make operational improvements that ensure we meet the cultural and community expectations of our organization.”

Ted Corbett, Director of Knowledge Management at Children’s added, “We needed a business intelligence solution that could provide better ways to share information, would be faster than any other business intelligence solutions to deploy, and one that would not only save analysts time but would be something they loved using. We chose Tableau because it met those needs and more.  As an example, our Surgical Services team uses Tableau to better understand operating room utilization enabling them to make adjustments to their procedural case duration resulting in increased capacity to perform more cases in a day.”

Children’s has deployed Tableau’s rapid-fire business intelligence suite across its entire organization – hospital, research and foundation. Users can connect to virtually any data source and rapidly create easy to interpret interactive dashboards, reports and visualizations. In just a few clicks, data can be shared so that anyone using a browser can interact with and review the live analytics. Tableau is a replacement of the slow pace and rigidity of traditional business intelligence software.

“Seattle Children’s Hospital is saving lives every day.  They don’t have time for systems that require programmers to write custom reports or analysts to spend hours manipulating data,” said Christian Chabot, CEO and co-founder of Tableau Software. “Seattle Children’s was looking for rapid-fire business intelligence – something that would make their organization dramatically faster and more productive when working with disparate data. Tableau delivered.”
