London/Manchester/Birmingham, 12 September 2012 – SQS Software Quality Systems (AIM: SQS.L), the world’s leading specialist for software quality, has signed a Tier 3 membership agreement with the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), a global manufacturing research hub. SQS will introduce its industry-leading software quality approach as a differentiator for new manufacturing infomatics software and systems developed and integrated at the MTC.

SQS is currently the only software quality provider working with the organisation, which has been set up to improve the business performance of UK manufacturers by providing an opportunity to prove new and innovative processes at production scale. SQS will bring a range of software testing approaches, including its core methodology-backed services of test management, manual and automated testing, and performance testing.

The MTC will showcase what can be achieved by integrating product lifecycle management with manufacturing engineering systems and demonstrate the impact of a wide range of novel approaches to visualisation, manufacturing techniques and supply chain management.

SQS has significant manufacturing sector expertise, including work with on testing Siemens Team Center PLM Software, both with Siemens and a number of Siemens’ customers.  SQS has worked with many manufacturing companies across the world from Volkswagen to Elekta. The company will use this experience and its methodology PractiQ, including its approach to Test Case Specification, to ensure that any new manufacturing software is working as expected and can be replicated on an industrial scale.

Dave Rigler, Market Director at SQS, said: “The integration of software systems across manufacturing processes and supply chains has the capability to make dramatic changes to the UK manufacturing sector. The potential for change is enormous, with advances in manufacturing such as additive manufacturing and adaptive machining, coupled with advances in software capabilities, such as visualisation and business wide IT integration. At SQS, we believe that world class quality is fundamental to what the MTC is striving to achieve and that our expertise can mitigate the risk associated with a wide range of software challenges.”

“Process simulation offers the potential to generate significant cost benefits to manufacturers and their supply chains but the verification and validation of that simulation is vital for improved quality and reduced development time,” said Clive Hickman, CEO, the MTC. “Working with SQS, the MTC will be able to offer our members a high quality environment to take advantage of industrial scale simulation with the appropriate software quality systems support.”

The MTC is currently working with companies that span a wide range of industry sectors including aerospace, automotive, rail and IT.

About the MTC

The MTC (Manufacturing Technology Centre) has been established to prove innovative manufacturing processes and technologies in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions.  The MTC provides a high quality environment for the development and demonstration of new technologies on an industrial scale, providing a unique opportunity for manufacturers to develop new and innovative processes and technologies in a low risk environment.

The areas of MTC’s technology focus are appropriate to both large and small companies and are applicable across industry sectors. Founder industrial members of the MTC are Rolls-Royce, Aero Engine Controls and Airbus UK and members now include manufacturing companies from a range of diverse industry sectors.
