Data management is likely to be revolutionised by unified storage solutions, according to an expert.

Bob Plumridge, chairman of Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Europe, said that the problem with conventional storage is that it is specific to an application, which was fine when data assets were small.

“But the problem became apparent that organisations have lots of physical things to manage. And the other problem was always that, when they ran out of storage on one device or application, they couldn’t use spare storage from another application or another device,” he explained.
