Tableau Software Expands Mobile Business Intelligence Capabilities with Support for Android

Tableau Software, the global leader in rapid-fire business intelligence (BI) software, today announced a new Android tablet application, making it even easier for customers to have access to information when and where they need it. The update is included in the general availability of Tableau 7.0.6.

The native Android application will provide Android users with touch-optimized controls for dashboards, including filters, pinch and zoom and dynamic scrolling. It will also allow users to browse the content on Tableau Server right from their Android tablet device.

“The majority of our nearly 20-man-strong consulting team has been using the Beta version of Tableau’s Android app for some time now, and we’re very pleased,” said James Wright, Business Intelligence Consultant at InterWorks, Inc. “Presenting business intelligence via a Tablet really breaks the mold and completely reframes expectations. The user expects, and receives, a fully interactive experience that transcends the traditional BI approach of ‘Sit and Stare.’
I never walk into a new client or training session without a Tablet.”

Tableau’s support for Android follows touch-aware support for the Apple iPad announced in 2011. Touch awareness happens automatically when Tableau is accessed from a mobile device. All of the capabilities provided by Tableau Server such as security rules, Favorites, Tags, Projects and Users are consistent in the mobile scenario.

“Tableau’s mobile business intelligence means an author can create a rich, compelling visualization without worrying about where people will consume the information – on the web, a mobile device or Android or iPad app,” said Chris Stolte, Chief Development Officer, co-founder and inventor of Tableau Software. “Providing 24/7 anywhere access to Tableau is driving a culture of data-driven decision making. Our customers are raving about the results.”
