What Do You Know about SIP Connection?

Nowadays, switching corporate telephony to VOIP is picking up steam, with SIP being most often used as the basic connection protocol. The universality of the protocol can cause confusion to many – it can be used to connect both regular subscriber terminals (SIP phones, adapters, softphones, etc.) and VoIP nodes (From IP PBX to Softswitches and Gateways with E1 and etc.). This is one of the greatest features that make the new technology so widely used in the corporate setting.

By connecting a SIP trunk through a provider, the company does not limit itself to data exchange (voice, video, and chat), unlike traditional analog telephony. This allows you to refuse from the multi-pair physical cable lines connecting it to the city PBX. Moreover, the provider that gives you an external didlogic.com/voice/did-numbers/local-did-numbers did phone number, may be located in any country around the world.

Who Gets the Best?

If you are a representative of a large business, a call center, or a telecommunications operator, you may already have your own telephony system. Connecting your system to the SIP solution will allow you to make premium quality calls to any part of the globe at the best rates. All you need to do is to find a trusted operator and go with it.

SIP Operator Selection

The next step is to select a suitable operator providing a SIP trunk. At this stage, you need to consider several factors:

1. Security. As SIP trunks are connected through the World Wide Web, it is critically important to ensure the security of the operator’s network and a reliable mechanism of protection against telephone fraud. The anti-fraud system (fraud prevention) must constantly monitor the activity of SIP trunks and immediately block calls during suspicious activity.

2. Own network. Does the SIP operator have its own network or does it work “virtually” in a third-party network under its own brand? There are quite a few “virtual” operators without their own network, which are resellers of SIP trunks of other operators. We recommend cooperating with operators who not only offer the trunks but also own their own IP network.

3. Competitive price. Of course, the price depends on the class of the service; however, some operators offer SIP trunks at prices above market rates. It is advisable to compare different offers. But you should note that you need a business-class connection, so do not pick second-rate deals.

Internet Connection Upgrade

After selecting a SIP operator, consider the possibility of a dedicated Internet connection set up specifically for your trunk. Many firewalls can work with multiple WAN channels. Given the low Internet cost in developed countries, a separate connection for a trunk will guarantee a higher quality VoIP connection.

Please note that some SIP operators immediately provide a dedicated Internet channel for their SIP trunks. A dedicated connection enables you to absolutely separate the transmission of voice traffic and data. However, here you have to consider the cost of the dedicated connection and the tech specs of your firm infrastructure.
