Not long ago, education meant earning a degree to thrive among the industry’s most successful professionals. This practice has become dated as the younger generation focuses on keeping up with the demands of cost of living.

It’s imperative that a student exercises prudence when choosing a degree program to explore a promising career. A degree in business or CIT (Computer and Information Technology) offers flexible options and job opportunities. A future professional looking toward a career in either business or CIT is often curious about the salary potential. Here’s something concrete to steer them in the right direction. This makes it a breeze to decide on a career change if necessary.

A business degree has long been an career path for future professionals. It’s unfortunate that it’s not as influential as it has been in the past. In the right hands, a degree in business can be an asset. It offers a student the immunity he or she needs to venture into any industry, including accounting, engineering, computing, etc. Future and present-day students involved in CIT get to develop an eclectic range of skills in this career. It offers a broad selection of education choices. The job outlook for future CIT graduates looks promising based on information shared by the U.S. Bureau-of-Labor-Statistics (BLS). With a promising job prospect and a potential growth scale of 15% up to 2022; studying CIT is an asset. The median salary that a potential CIT graduate earn is $102,190 per year at a hourly rate of $49.13. Someone who has earned a degree in business can collect an annual median salary of $78,600 for the highest paid position. The U.S. BLS has shared a report that shows a 19% increase in jobs for business-related fields. This projection will continue into 2022.

Degree in CIT vs. Business

A degree in CIT offers a broad spectrum of job opportunities backed by a high-paid salary. It incorporates the fundamental skills that today’s employers need in their companies. A degree in business offers a similar standard of immunity, but it’s not as demanding. Another disadvantage is that the study schedule is demanding and not all programs allow a student to explore work opportunities while in school.

CIT offers multiple career options including website development/design, information security, software development, database systems, forensics and networking. A degree in business is compatible with various career fields too and a student can advance their education. It’s not as in-demand as a CIT degree as business is a popular choice for many students.

A career in CIT promises a fruitful future as job availability increases in different areas. It’s a growing field with a 22% – 31% increase in employment. This projection will continue into 2020 based on a study. Business-related jobs have increased up to 19 percent and this projection will continue into 2022.

When choosing a college major, don’t rule out a degree in CIT.
