RESTON, Va.—September 8, 2011— Appian, the global innovator in enterprise and cloud-based business process management (BPM) software, today announced that it is an official solution provider for the Amazon Web Services AWS GovCloud (US). AWS GovCloud (US) is an AWS Region designed to allow U.S. government agencies and contractors to move more sensitive workloads into the cloud by addressing their specific regulatory and compliance requirements. Appian’s cloud BPM software on AWS has been accredited with an Authority to Operate (ATO) under the FISMA Act, certifying that it meets critical security requirements for government IT systems.

Appian leads the market in BPM for Government, serving more than 30 U.S. federal departments and agencies including the Departments of Treasury, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, and all branches of the Armed Forces. While the Department of Education and other government bodies already use Appian in the cloud, most government customers currently use Appian on-premise. Appian on AWS GovCloud (US), combined with Appian’s easy portability between on-premise and cloud environments, will make the cloud delivery option easier and more attractive for current and future Appian government customers.

“Today, over 100 government agencies are taking advantage of AWS and we are pleased that Appian continues to be an innovator in providing AWS cloud-based software to our customers so they can benefit from the secure, scalable and cost-effective services,” said Teresa Carlson, Vice President, Global Public Sector, AWS. “With the addition of offering support for AWS GovCloud (US), we are able to extend our long-standing relationship and provide a new level of support specific to existing and future government agencies and contractors.”

Because AWS GovCloud (US) is physically and logically accessible by U.S. persons only, government agencies can now manage more heavily regulated data in AWS while remaining compliant with strict federal requirements. The new Region offers the same high level of security as other AWS Regions and supports existing AWS security controls and certifications such as FISMA, FIPS 140-2 compliant end points, SAS-70, ISO 27001, and PCI DSS Level 1. AWS also provides an environment that enables agencies to comply with HIPAA regulations.

“Over the last year, our government clients have been increasingly interested in deploying our BPM platform in the cloud,” said Samir Gulati, Appian’s Vice President of Marketing. “Through our alliance with Amazon Web Services, AWS GovCloud (US) provides an excellent FISMA-ready solution that our customers can take advantage of immediately.”
