The healthcare company joins Barclays, IPC, Telstra, United Rentals and Vodafone using WhereScape RED to build or extend Teradata data warehouses

PORTLAND, Ore.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–WhereScape, a provider of agile development solutions for building and extending data warehouses, announced today that MedAssets, a financial improvement partner for healthcare providers, has purchased WhereScape RED. Using WhereScape RED, MedAssets will be able to conduct agile, iterative development of its new Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance running the database from Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the analytic data solutions company.

“WhereScape RED is ideally suited for today’s highly diverse hybrid data ecosystems and provides resources to help IT organizations achieve an agile, flexible data warehouse at lower costs.”

MedAssets joins dozens of companies, including British multinational banking company Barclays, SUBWAY franchisee purchasing cooperative IPC, equipment rental company United Rentals, Australian telecommunications and media company Telstra, and multinational mobile communications company Vodafone, who are using WhereScape’s agile development environment to build or extend Teradata® data warehouses. WhereScape has been a Teradata partner since 2006.

The MedAssets Agile Data Warehouse

MedAssets, based in Atlanta, partners with more than 180 health systems, 4,000 hospitals and 90,000 non-acute healthcare providers. As one of the largest healthcare supply chain management companies, MedAssets manages more than $45 billion in total supply chain spending by hospitals and other healthcare providers. Upon acquiring a large competitor in 2010, MedAssets knew leveraging its expanded information assets would be a key differentiator. After selecting the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance and Teradata Database as the platform for its integrated data warehouse, MedAssets chose WhereScape RED to help deliver its analytic data platform using an agile project approach and, working closely with the business units, to deliver a tailored solution.

“Our goal was to deliver demonstrable value to the business as quickly as possible and maximize our return on our Teradata investment,” said Chris Stewart, director, Architecture, Spend & Clinical Resource Management, at MedAssets. “WhereScape’s ability to fit into MedAssets’ agile development approach, work with dispersed teams, and capture valuable metadata were key factors in our selection. In WhereScape we were buying all of their Teradata data warehousing knowledge embedded in RED, along with a promise to absorb changes easily and be quick to learn and become productive. We have found WhereScape RED to be just what it promised and more,” Stewart said.

A Glove Fit with Teradata

“WhereScape has an elegant and proven solution for quickly modeling, prototyping, building and deploying Teradata data warehouses,” said Shawn Rogers, vice president of Research, Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing, Enterprise Management Associates. “WhereScape RED is ideally suited for today’s highly diverse hybrid data ecosystems and provides resources to help IT organizations achieve an agile, flexible data warehouse at lower costs.”

Customers utilize RED to build a Teradata analytic data platform without the cost and complexity of conventional data integration approaches. WhereScape RED is tuned to accelerate time-to-results by generating Teradata native Structured Query Language, Data Description Language, and load utilities through a fully featured user interface that employs a comprehensive list of Teradata best practices.

The outcome of WhereScape RED development is a set of high-quality Teradata objects including tables, indexes, and join indexes, as well as set-based procedures and load scripts. All Teradata objects authored by WhereScape RED are automatically documented and easily deployed to both business users and technical audiences for easy source traceability.

“We are hearing about the positive economics and effectiveness of the WhereScape-Teradata integration, from both existing customers and new accounts. With WhereScape RED for Teradata, our customers are deploying their data warehouses faster and easier, while adhering to Teradata best practices. Ultimately, this quick time to production expedites the return on their data warehouse investment,” said Rob Berman, vice president, Global Alliances for Teradata.

“We are committed to helping Teradata customers by providing them an end-to-end experience for quickly developing their data warehouse as well as help them maximize their use of it,” added WhereScape CEO Michael Whitehead. “WhereScape RED enables organizations to build Teradata data warehouses in less time, for less money, while mitigating risk and resulting in fully documented implementations. Our integration with the Teradata environment ensures a seamless experience that helps deliver rapid time to value,” Whitehead said.
