Oracle unveils cloud platform

Oracle Corp. rolled out its own cloud platform, as the software giant heightened its focus on a growing trend in the corporate market for technology.

Oracle Chief Executive Larry Ellison said the company was making available more than 100 cloud applications geared to business customers. The announcement underscored the importance of cloud computing, in which businesses tap computer power through a network, doing away with setting up their own data centers.

In this model, businesses access software applications for such tasks as managing inventory and keeping track of payroll through the Web.
