Revolution in Biology: Explosion of Data

July 2, 2012 No Comments

Datameer is offering a free license of their software for qualifying academic research.  Dr. Douglas Grubb of the Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry in Halle, Germany is conducting genetic research on the biology of plants, specifically on a model plant for studying genetics and evolution along with plant sciences.

Dr. Grubb speaks about the problems he and his colleagues faced prior to using Datameer. The world of biology is experiencing the availability of larger and larger data sets, especially gene sequences. This explosion of data is now allowing the world of biology to analyze large sets of data, which they could not do before. In the past the computational tools that were needed to analyze big data was geared towards those who were computer programers or experts. Now the tools have changed and biologists are able to make full use of all this information, without being computer savy.
