Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Selects Pegasystems to Help With Legacy Modernization

Pegasystems Inc), the leader in Business Process Management software solutions and a leading provider of customer relationship management (CRM) solutions, today announced that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has chosen Pegasystems to help drive its modernization efforts and agility in connection with its grants management program.  The state agency’s implementation of Pegasystems’ advanced BPM and case management technology comes amid the Company’s continued expansion into the government sector.

TCEQ, with a $540 million budget and nearly 3,000 workers, is creating greater efficiencies and modernization with its operations.  The agency’s newly implemented solution – which is replacing a database application – will streamline operations by reducing labor costs and IT complexity.  It will also increase data security and asset protection with the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP) program, an air quality improvement initiative which TCEQ manages.  TERP provides funding to eligible applicants who operate heavy equipment within and near sensitive environmental areas, in order to reduce emissions that produce ground-level ozone.

For TCEQ and other government agencies, Pegasystems offers a faster way to transform aging legacy systems than either existing packaged applications or internal IT development options.  By giving these agencies greater ability to manage change quickly and securely, Pegasystems’ industry-leading solution, which features intelligence decisioning and dynamic case management capabilities, helps agencies reduce waste and achieve greater efficiency.  Agencies can also leverage existing investments in legacy systems to achieve enhanced functionality in short timeframes and a lower total cost of ownership.

With an unprecedented level of government reform underway throughout the country, government agencies need to re-examine lengthy and costly IT investments in order to become more agile.  Pegasystems’ Build for Change ® technology is a more pragmatic approach that promotes re-use via legacy systems integration, intelligent automation and effective use of cloud technologies.  Pegasystems solutions drive efficiencies by allowing clients to directly capture their objectives and execute changes without manual software coding, eliminating costly and time-consuming handoffs between disjointed stacks of products.

Supporting Quotes:

Prakash Vilanilam, TCEQ IT Project Manager

“With nearly $1 billion in TERP grant funding under our management, it’s important that the agency continually improve our process controls and our ability to adapt to changing legislative requirements so we can remain at the forefront of modernization in order to provide the most accurate and timely service to our constituents.  Having advanced technology and processes in place are key factors to ensure that happens.”

Tim Lindstrom, CEO, iBridge Group

“We selected Pegasystems’ SmartBPM Suite to build the grants management solution and assist the TCEQ Program area in achieving a more efficient system. We are seeing a trend where Government agencies are looking for tools to quickly offer more efficient ways to modernize systems, manage their work and become more agile.”

Dave Dantus, Director, Industry Solutions, Public Sector

“Government agencies are looking for better ways to transform mission-critical legacy systems given the challenges to create better service to the public with fewer resources. They want to be able to easily modify systems to adapt to frequent policy changes and eliminate costly errors.  Government agencies, such as TCEQ, are seeing that Pegasystems can help them meet their modernization objectives and drive down operational costs.”
