Gone are the days when social media was simply used to send funny pictures of your cat or to catch up with long lost high school friends. While many people still obviously rely on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other channels to communicate and connect with their friends and family, the scope of what social media can offer has exploded. From increasing the possibilities of political advocacy during campaigns, to creating new e-commerce possibilities, social media is quickly becoming a central part of how we live our lives.

Over 3.1 billion people use some form of social media today, and when it comes to the industry of buying and selling, ecommerce has exploded onto the social media scene. Consider some of the following statistics:

  • 95% of adults aged 18 to 34 are likely to follow a certain brand through social media profiles.
  • Over 70% of consumers who have a positive social media experience with a certain product or brand are likely to recommend it to others via similar social media channels.
  • Facebook, the largest of the social media channels, swayed over 50% of both online and offline purchases of consumers.
  • Over 50 million small and medium sized businesses use Facebook to connect with their clients, and 4 million of those businesses pay for Facebook advertising services.

These statistics show that both online and brick and mortar businesses are increasingly dependent on social media platforms to connect with their clients. But what is the best way to utilize these platforms in order to genuinely connect and convert their clients?

In recent years, artificial intelligence and machine learning systems have begun to affect the world of social media advertising. According to WorkFusion, a leader in the world of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and intelligent automation, AI systems can “improve conversion by rapidly gathering and enriching data.” This is essential for e-commerce companies that want to convert those site visits into clicks on their “buy now” button.

Artificial intelligence systems are also essential in growing the personalization of social media advertising campaigns. This will allow companies to connect more directly with individual customers who might be interested in what they have to offer.

For example, AI systems are capable of collecting and analyzing both prospective and current customer data. Instead of guessing what types of customers might be attracted to your product or service, AI can help you create more advantageous buyer personas. AI-constructed buyer personas go beyond conventional market research to identify shifting consumer demographics, behavior patterns, and other useful information that will help you increase penetration into a desired market.

Furthermore, artificial intelligence has been used to create slack bots, which can help to boost the revenue gained through social media advertising. For content marketing purposes, slack bots are designed to do a complete scrutiny of social media platforms in order to identify posts that are related to your business niche. This, in turn, allows you to determine the probability that each social media post will successfully engage and convert your potential and current customers.

As social media platforms continue to dominate the way we do business, AI technologies will only continue to help social media marketers become more competitive and successful.
