3 Useful Tech Tips for Small Business Owners

January 17, 2023 No Comments

Featured article by Russell Emmenthal

Your small business might be the talk of the town because of its delectable pastries and strong coffee – its popularity might have skyrocketed even more because it got featured by a large TikTok or Instagram account. Nonetheless, having strong business acumen and knowing how to adapt and evolve your products or services is just as important.

Here are three useful tips to keep your coffee shop’s lights on and avoid becoming just another abandoned venture.

1. Embrace the Data Analytics Revolution

When it comes to making informed decisions, data analytics, social media, and customer relationship management (CRM), strategies help summarize how well a business is doing. This includes information such as:

– How many people are becoming customers after visiting a website

– How many people are engaging with your social media content

– Whether a business is profitable (and where it can improve)

If you’re not able to measure or quantify the performance of digital marketing campaigns, product launches, or your business’s web pages and social media accounts, there is no way things can be improved upon. Data analytics will always be your friend, and the numbers will always portray an unbiased picture of how your business is performing compared to other competitors.

Additionally, don’t be afraid to outsource tools that make data collection processes far easier. Applications such as a web-based SAP HANA client can create easily legible statistical diagrams displaying average order values during specific periods.

They can also help you assess your customers’ buying habits, your website pages’ bounce rates, and so much more.

2. Set Up a User-Friendly Website

Whether running a physical store or conducting all of your operations online via an e-commerce store, running an attractive, elegant, user-friendly website is crucial for all small businesses in 2023.

Your website is likely where potential customers will form first impressions of your business and the products or services you’re selling – grab their attention while their curiosity is at an all-time high.

Treat your website as a sacred space. Limit the use of colors, banner advertisements, and pop-up windows, and spend time implementing effective SEO strategies. Give branding some serious consideration before you create a website, as building trust via a specific branding style helps you stand out from the rest of the pack.

3. Always Track Your Competitors Closely

While Sun Tzu’s famous “keep your friends close; keep your enemies closer” quote doesn’t translate directly to owning a small business, there’s plenty of insight to be gained by always studying your enemies.

In this case, we’re talking about your direct competition. Seeing what makes their products or services so great will allow you to spot weaknesses in your own and make adjustments accordingly.

You can start, for example, by analyzing their social media accounts’ engagement rates and their online business website. Scope their digital marketing strategy and see if you could learn anything.

Take a look at what makes them do so well and find ways to make such an idea your own. Test it out within your own strategies. This is where data analytics can also come in to assess the performance of your competition’s posts too.

Closing Thoughts

From embracing data analytics to keeping a close eye on your competitors, these tips are simply the foundation of what makes a small business sustainable and viable. These are the strategies that will allow your business to remain relevant to your customers because you’ll be able to keep offering the products they love while growing your business.

Finally, ensure a strategy works for your business before implementing it. All businesses are unique, meaning that agendas should be set depending on where you’re at.
