In October 2016, Mimecast commissioned Forrester Consulting to evaluate drivers of adoption for cloud-based email as well as to discover the business concerns and expectations for security in cloud-based email platforms. In conducting in-depth surveys with 220 IT professionals, Forrester tested the hypothesis that organizations have the generally false belief that cloud email platforms provide necessary and sufficient security to protect their enterprise. Furthermore, the hypothesis included the perspective that these same organizations often don’t know what security questions to ask or which areas to more deeply investigate during the procurement of a cloud email platform. Organizations also often don’t know how to mitigate the security weaknesses of cloud-based email platforms.
