OneSpan Brings Banks FIDO-Compliant Biometric Authentication With Nok Nok Labs Partnership

OneSpan, which provides digital identity security, transaction security and business productivity to many of the world’s largest banks, is partnering with authentication innovators Nok Nok Labs to offer end-to-end FIDO-compliant solutions that meet UAF and U2F standards.

The partnership combines the OneSpan Mobile Security Suite (previously known as the DIGIPASS for Apps SDK) and the Nok Nok S3 Authentication Suite, which enables FIDO certified multi-factor authentication for mobile and web applications and provides a strong, secure and user-friendly frictionless biometric experience.

The joint solution also enables banks to integrate additional fraud-detection, phishing-resistance and prevention benefits including geolocation, jailbreak and rootkit detection, device binding, device identification and application shielding with Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP).

The Mobile Security Suite enables banks and financial institutions to offer secure mobile or online applications without compromising the user experience. This standards-based authentication ensures device interoperability while helping prevent fraud and attacks by replacing static passwords with advanced authentication options, including biometrics.

OneSpan CEO Scott Clements said: “Enabling a secure yet frictionless experience is in line with OneSpan’s customer-centric vision, and as such we endorse FIDO standards-based authentication.”

OneSpan is a FIDO Alliance board member, and will launch additional software, server and SDK support for the FIDO2 protocol later this year. Its Digipass SecureClick device now supports FIDO standards, as will its Digipass 785.

Under the FIDO standard for Fast Identity Online, biometrics and other personally identifying information (PII) are stored locally on the user’s device, to address user concerns about the external storage of sensitive personal data.
