5 Ways To Use Technology To Improve Your Writing Skills

February 14, 2018 No Comments

Featured article by Damian Troy, Independent Technology Author

Writing isn’t a skill that comes easily, even for the most experienced of writers. Instead, it takes time, persistence, and the willingness to learn. It can take years to improve your writing skills, though this process can often be sped up with the assistance of technology. With an entire breadth of techniques being transformed into something digital, we can now adapt and improve our writing skills even further. Carry on reading to find out how.

1. Plagiarism Checker

In order to write a brilliant essay, you need to ensure that you credit the necessary sources, otherwise you’ll be a perpetrator of plagiarism. Depending on the scale of it, plagiarism can come with some severe consequences, so you’ll want to avoid it at all costs. Luckily, with a plagiarism checker, you can ensure that your work is 100% original, not only ensuring that you haven’t wrongfully used other content on the web, but also giving you the satisfaction that your masterpiece was entirely written by you.

2. Create Your Own Blog

Having your own personal blog can be a platform that allows you to experiment with your writing skills. Kept solely for personal uses, it’s your own little project where you can test out different writing styles and see which ones work best for you. You can write about things that you’re passionate about, or alternatively challenge yourself to writing about a topic you’re unfamiliar with, forcing you to adapt your usual writing style into something more obscure.

3. Use Writing-Enhancement Platforms

Despite having an excellent ability to tell a story and engage readers, it doesn’t always mean that your grammar and general spelling are on point. If you’d like to improve your writing skills, using a writing-enhancement platform such as Grammarly will allow you to check that your writing is free from any grammatical errors, which could be the detail that pushes your work from one grade to the other. Often, many of these writing-enhancement platforms are free as well, allowing you to improve your writing skills for no extra cost.

4. Use of eBooks

If you’re a student writing an essay, it can be a near-impossible challenge to carry the uncountable amount of textbooks with you; however, technology is able to solve that issue. Instead, consider investing in eBooks, as you’re able to store them all in one convenient place, whether that is your phone or a Kindle device, allowing you to enhance your writing skills without the need to carry tonnes of books around. This tip has saved the backs of students all across the world, and will continue to do so in the future.

5. Noise-Cancelling Headphones

While this doesn’t directly impact the development of your writing skills, it can pose as a huge help to writers who have to work in noisy and distracting environments. When trying to write in a loud environment, you can often find it difficult to translate your thoughts onto paper, restricting you from producing your best work. However, with a pair of high-quality noise-cancelling headphones, you can eliminate the distractions and optimise your writing ability.

Technology has helped us in millions of ways, but when it comes to writing, it really is a life-saver. Whether you struggle with your general grammar, or you want to experiment with different writing styles, technology has created the platforms needed to improve your writing skills.
