6 Myths Surrounding Mobile App Development

January 5, 2015 No Comments

If you are a first time mobile app developer, you will be surrounded by myths. Mobile app development, over a period of time has caused a lot of myths that have overridden reality. If statistics are anything to go by, you will see that the percentage of time spent by users on mobile app has gone from 80% to 86% in 2014. Users are demanding mobile apps, as it is convenient to browse an app then opening the website on the mobile.

Another statistics shows that people mostly use photo, music and maps related apps on their mobiles followed by social networking sites, messengers and other apps. With such huge statistics, creating a mobile app becomes a necessity for your business.

Juned Ghanchi an industry expert and consultant at IndianAppDevelopers Company say “Mobile apps provide the right blend of engagement and convenience thus making it a profitable segment for both users and businesses. It has completed the gap that existed between users, technology and brands fulfilling the needs of engagement, secure session and retention of users thus lowering bounce rate. Overall, a tremendous growth between brands and users has been observed with the growth of mobile app development”.

As you have noticed, developing an app requires strategizing the functionality of the app, and also how to convert into a profitable app. While brands are surrounded by questions related to developing an app, they are also surrounded by myths related to mobile app development. Here are 6 myths that remain clouded in the minds of the people.

Know the Technology

Most mobile app development gets stalled in the ideation stage because the business owners feel that tech know how is important for mobile app development. This is a myth, and this is the main reason why many brands don’t have their own mobile apps. While it is definitely important to know the basics of mobile app development, it is not necessary to have a complete knowledge about the different platforms, coding etc. If you feel you have a great idea, hire someone to do the work for you. With the plethora of tools and developers available, you don’t need to feel technological handicapped.

Just Create the App

Most brands think, it is just important to create the app. Once the app has been developed, the audience will automatically flow towards the app. Another wrong notion about app development!

According to Wm Jess Taylor, CEO BlueRocket “Creating an app is just the beginning of mobile app development journey. Getting customers for your app and making them use constantly is the most important and a rather difficult part of this journey. A lot of brands have successfully created apps, but the customer involvement has been stalled because of the absence of efforts from the brand’s end to involve and engage customers”.

An Idea is Important

Your idea should be such that it fills a gap between what’s existent and what’s needed in the market. It should be unique, but the uniqueness should be related to the need of the market. But, it is not necessary that if no one has thought about your idea, they won’t relate to it. The factor of relativity is better acknowledged by the need in the market and the feasibility of the idea. More than the uniqueness of the idea, it is important for you to execute the idea really well.

Fund your Apps through Prototypes

A lot of brands have been following this idea. They create a prototype, and ask venture capatalists to invest in their ideas. At the end of the day, a static prototype will not help you judge the cost of developing the app.

Create a demo version, with certain software and allow people to use the apps. You need to build on the user signups and showcase interest in retentions before you actually start gaining funds for your apps.

Peer Supported Validation

Very often you take advice on an imaginary idea from your peer group. While it is a great way to start, the validation is often imaginary. You won’t get the perfect response, and you will end up believing in the feedback given.

Instead begin by creating a prototype and pilot test your app. Ask for suggestions! You should ideally seek feedback from people who are going to use your app, rather than from people who are in your peer group.

Marketing Means Spending Money

It’s a notion amidst brands that marketing means you have to spend a lot of money. Is it so? Of course, you can get maximum reach, and easily build your base while spending money. But, you will not attain the necessary growth if you have a good marketing strategy but not a very stable product.

“It is important to have a stable and feasible product that can reach out to the audiences’ and fill the product gap. Growth is attained when the product is good, and your customers are delighted with the execution. If there is one great way to grow your product and market it well, it is word of mouth” Nathan Williams, Developer, ArcTouch.

So, if you are planning to develop an app, why not just generate a prototype of your app, pilot test it and find out if the product is good, great or bad. You will automatically know if you should go ahead with the idea or not.
