How to Stay Sane When Your Email Management Software Crashes

March 13, 2015 No Comments

Featured blog by Xander Schofield, Independent Technology Writer

We’ve all been here before. It comes at the worst possible moment after spending a significant amount of time drafting an email before the system crashes.

Remain Calm

Everyone in the IT world knows that nothing gets done when we get mad at a computer. Your computer cannot process your emotion, and it will not speak to you even if you yell at it like Boris in “Goldeneye,” which is just one of the film’s many IT mistakes. Your best chance of getting out of this crash in one piece is collecting yourself, sitting down at your computer and beginning the work of solving the problem.

Call The Service

You need to contact the service for your email so that they know there is a problem. You need to inform them before you do anything because you do not know when they are going to get back to you. While you are waiting for them to get back to you, you should try some of the troubleshooting steps that are listed. These could solve your problem before you ever have to speak with the service. Also, you will be able to tell the service that you followed all the steps before they ever called you back.

Shut Everything Down

Shutting down computers and restarting them is the oldest trick in the book. The computer will be able to refresh itself, and it is possible that the service will start working again simply because you restarted the computer. When you are taking this first step, you are cutting out part of what the service is going to ask you to do.

Use The Task Manager

When you are still having problems with the email service, you need to ask all your workers to go into the task manager on their computer. When they are in the task manager, they can close the email problem and start it again. This might help the service to work properly. If this does not work, you can move on to the third and final troubleshooting step.

Uninstall And Reinstall

You may need to uninstall the email program and install it again. The software is usually found online, and your workers can do this while they complete other tasks. This is a very simple solution that requires your workers to sign back in to their email. This will usually help, but you can still go back to the service if you need more assistance.

Call The Service Back

When you call the service back, you want to ask them how you are going to manage IT tickets that are coming in in droves. You want them to take you through any problems they have had with the service lately. These issues might tell you something about the problem. They may give you something that you can do to troubleshoot the problem, or they may tell you when you can get the service going again. Most services are going to tell you to reboot computers at a certain hour so that the problem will be fixed. Being persistent and kind is the best way to go.

You can get everything done you need to get done as long as you remain calm, follow these steps and work with the email support system.
