San Jose, CA – February 18, 2014 – MapR Technologies, Inc., the leader in Apache™ Hadoop® technology for big data deployments, today announced the expansion of its Asia Pac presence with the opening of an office in Korea located in Seoul.  The company also appointed Daniel Kim to country manager to support the expansion of the MapR Distribution for Apache Hadoop in Korea.

“Since we are seeing very strong demand in the Korean market with the introduction of mature big data technology and the government’s investment plan in high-growth areas, we are opening a Korea branch office to build-out our presence in the region with a focus on delivering the MapR platform’s advanced technology to the enterprise market,” said Steve Fitz, senior vice president, worldwide field operations, MapR Technologies.

Country Manager Daniel Kim has 19 years of IT industry experience. He will lead the MapR business expansion in Korea and establish relationships with customers and distributors to support growing customer demand for the MapR Distribution. Prior to joining MapR, Kim served in country manager roles for QLogic Korea, DDN, Copan Systems, and also worked for EMC, NetApp and Dacom.

“With the most advanced big data enterprise platform for Hadoop, we are confident that MapR will lead the big data market in Korea. The company has already proven itself in the Korean market with Samsung Electronics and a significant life insurance company,” said Daniel Kim. “We plan to grow the Korean market and meet emerging enterprise needs in collaboration with partners this year.”

MapR has also entered into a partnership agreement with IT service provider, LG CNS.  Under the terms of the agreement, LG CNS will provide system integration and consulting services across Korea for the MapR Distribution for Hadoop and NoSQL.

LG CNS is a global IT service provider with expertise in big data technology in Korea.  It identified the MapR Distribution for Hadoop as the right platform to allow organizations to vastly improve their big data analytics initiatives.  “We recognize MapR as a leader in Hadoop technology with unique enterprise-grade features that bring dependability, ease-of-use and world-record speed to Hadoop, NoSQL, database and streaming applications in one unified big data platform,” said Young-Ik Park, vice president, advanced analytics business unit, LG CNS.

During the last six months, MapR has expanded its footprint in the region establishing an office in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo which joins Asia Pac headquarters in Singapore under the direction of Vice President, Asia Pacific/Japan, Martin Darling. Martin brings to MapR a successful track record of cultivating high-impact sales and marketing teams and building sustainable, high-performance sales operations across Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ).

MapR is the only distribution that provides full data protection, no single points of failure, improved performance, and dramatic ease of use advantages. Most recently, MapR delivered the M7 Edition, an enterprise-grade platform for NoSQL and Hadoop, providing unique ease of use, dependability and performance advantages. M7 has removed the trade-offs organizations face when looking to deploy a NoSQL solution. M7 not only delivers enterprise-grade features such as Instant Recovery, Snapshots and Mirroring but also provides scale, strong consistency, reliability and continuous low latency.
