New Cloud Security Report: 90% of Security Professionals Concerned About Cloud Security

March 23, 2015 No Comments

Washington D.C., March 18, 2015 – (BusinessWire) – Crowd Research Partners today announced the results of a comprehensive cloud security study conducted in cooperation with the 250,000+ member Information Security Community on LinkedIn and leading cloud security vendors AlertLogic, AlienVault, Bitglass, CloudPassage, Palerra and Redspin.

Based on the responses of over 1,000 cybersecurity professionals, the Cloud Security Spotlight Report identifies the key drivers and risk factors of cloud adoption and how organizations are responding to security threats in the cloud.

Key findings include:

Security is still the biggest barrier to further cloud adoption. Nine out of ten organizations are concerned about cloud security.

The dominant cloud security concerns include unauthorized access, hijacking of accounts, and malicious insiders. Almost 80% of managers are concerned about data risk introduced by personal cloud storage services operated by employees or visitors.

The most popular method to close the cloud security gap is the ability to set and enforce consistent cloud security policies. Encryption of data at rest and in motion is considered as one of the most effective security controls for data protection in the cloud.

Despite the massive investments in security by SaaS providers, a significant share of respondents believe that popular cloud apps such as Salesforce and Office 365 are less secure than on-premise applications.

Cloud security is top of mind for cybersecurity professionals. This crowd-based research confirms that cloud computing is delivering on its promise of flexibility, availability and much talked about cost reductions,” said Holger Schulze, Founder of the Information Security Community on LinkedIn. “But the fundamental perception is that cloud computing is still falling short regarding security and regulatory compliance, making security concerns a critical barrier to faster adoption of cloud services.”
