Three reasons why the cloud is safer than traditional data centers

More than half of U.S. businesses use cloud computing, and that number is expected to keep growing. Companies are shifting from traditional data centers to the cloud for reasons including convenience, speed and efficiency.

Traditional data centers are on-site hardware that store data within a company’s local network, whereas the cloud is an off-site storage on the Internet. While the fact that the storage is off-site might sound like it’s not as safe, that isn’t the case. Here are three reasons why the cloud is safer than traditional data centers.

1. The cloud is more efficient

Many companies are using the cloud for its cost efficiencies. And while the cloud can save you money, it can also save you time and stress when it comes to security.

Traditional data centers are clunky. They require on-site implementation of security measures.

Because of the ease in using the cloud, companies can bypass the problem of disconnect. Companies generally have one decision-making authority who can implement security measures quickly and without any red tape.

2. You can implement securities easier

When using the cloud you can upload security measures quickly. No need to go to a facility or bring in someone to an on-site location.

You can also easily include encryption codes on files, so as to make your data as secure as possible. This allows only people with the correct password to access sensitive information.

3. Less room for data breaches

The cloud model cuts down on the chances for common causes of data breaches, according to Google’s Eran Feigenbaum.

“Data is typically lost when laptops and USB memory sticks are lost or stolen, but local storage is no longer necessary if a company uses cloud-based apps,” said Feigenbaum.

Companies can’t always control if a USB is lost or stolen, but they can eliminate that problem by moving to the cloud.
